The range and diversity of Audra's work as an artist is unmatched. Audra has received six Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards and one Emmy Award. In 2015, she won a record breaking 6 Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. She was also named by Time magazine among the 100 most influential individuals and given an award called the National Medal of Arts - the most prestigious award for artistic achievement in America in recognition of artistic excellence by the president Barack Obama. A luminous singer with an unmatched gift of dramatic truth telling, Ms. O'Connor is at ease on Broadway and on the stage of opera and on the world of television. Alongside the stage roles, McDonald has established a successful career which is a major recording and concert career. She regularly performs at world-class performances. McDonald was raised in a musical family in Fresno, CA. She was a classical singer who received training at the Juilliard School of New York. She won her initial Tony Award in 1994 for the Best Performance of a Featured actress in a musical for Carousel, at Lincoln Center Theater. Over the next four years, she took home two more Tony Awards for the category of featured actress. She was in the Broadway premier productions of Terrence McNally's musical Ragtime as well as Terrence McNally's play Master Class in 1996. It was an amazing total of three Tony Awards by the time she reached the age of 30. In 2004, she received her fourth Tony by starring on stage in A Raisin in the Sun with Sean Diddy Combs. Then in 2013, she brought home her 5th Tony, and also her first in the leading actress category. One of the Tony Awards most-decorated performer in 2014 was Billie Holiday, who she was as the title character in Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grill. This is identical to the role she performed in her 2017 West End London debut for which she was considered for nomination to an Olivier Award. The first actor to be awarded in four different category of acting, McDonald set a record for the amount of awards an actor has received. Her theater credits include The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (99) Henry IV (2007) 110 in the Shade (2008) Twelfth (2009), which was her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park premiere, which was the first time she performed in Shuffle Along or the Making of the Musical sensation of 1921 & All That Followed (2017) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (2018) and Ohio State Murders 2023. The Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sisters The First 100 Years that initially introduced McDonald to the television audience as a dramatic actress. The year 1999 saw her co-starred with Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. She also had regularly recurring roles on NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in 2000. McDonald, who was awarded an Emmy Award nomination for 1999 for her work on the HBO adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning film Wit with Emma Thompson, made her return to the network in 2003 with the drama about politics Mister Sterling. The film was written and produced by Emmy Award-winning Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. The Bedford Diaries on the WB at the beginning of 2006, and Kidnapped, NBC. McDonald got a 4th Emmy nomination for her part in HBO's film special of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill in 2016. The Bite was a six episode drama about pandemics produced in collaboration with Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. McDonald played U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence in the first episode of her role appeared on CBS's The Good Wife legal drama in the year 2009. She reprised this role in the year 2018, playing an episode main character Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. As a result of the role she played, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominees. In the present, she is guest on Julian Fellowes' period film The Gilded Age.
